Web developers are now able to write code directly for touchscreen interfaces instead of considering the use of a mouse.

There is an upgraded JavaScript engine for every platform, which helps processing a large amount of numeric code. This includes animation and images besides math. The beta version can now be used natively by not less than 34 languages.

Like the previous versions of Firefox 4, the beta 3 enjoys an improved web renderer with the largest jump in JavaScript. Other additions are represented by the App Tabs, improved HTML5 support and WebM video, a streamlined user interface putting tabs on top, and protection to crash against plugins such as Flash. The beta version released by Mozilla is available at the same time for Mac, Linux and Windows systems.

ASUS Eee Pad with muti-touch http://www.htlounge.net/art/10531/asus-eee-pad-with-muti-touch.html http://www.htlounge.net/art/10531/asus-eee-pad-with-muti-touch.html#comments Sat, 26 Dec 2009 21:44:53 +0000 guraru http://www.htlounge.net/?p=10531 According to some rumors the Eee Pad Tablet from ASUS will have a Tegra chipset from NVIDIA. It is probably that they will use a next generation processor on the new tablet. Thanks to NVIDIA technology the device will support 720p HD format and maybe in the future even the 1080p HD format.

Netbook News said that the new Eee Pad will not run on Windows CE or Mobile and it will be compatible with platforms that identify multi-touch devices like Windows 7 or Android 2.x but it will have a problem because it is not compatible with ARM chipsets like Tegra.

The design of the tablet it is probably the main reason the tablet is not ready yet. ASUS will launch the tablet after the end of March.

Samsung claims bada phones will use multi-touch http://www.htlounge.net/art/10041/samsung-claims-bada-phones-will-use-multi-touch.html http://www.htlounge.net/art/10041/samsung-claims-bada-phones-will-use-multi-touch.html#comments Sun, 13 Dec 2009 15:23:16 +0000 adina http://www.htlounge.net/?p=10041 Samsung has provided some feature details of the bada mobile platform in advance of the SDK release. Every device will sport a high specification, having a multi-touch wide VGA screen with an about 800×480-pixel resolution as a minimum for interface, as well as Wi-Fi, GPS and 3G connectivity.

The software can accept layers and have its own interface. The TouchWiz 3.0, a yet unreleased version of a custom interface also present on Omnia II and other Windows Mobile phones should run on the first bada handset from Samsung. The interface should support some extra features like face detection, general activity sensors and fine-grained control of vibrations and, as an open design, it will allow developers to access down the contact and phone services. The first bada phone should be available in the first half of next year, according to Samsung, and more models should be expected later.

The fact that bada will have to struggle not only with strong competitors outside of Samsung, like iPhone, but also within the company’s own line-up is already notorious. Samsung is still expected to ship handsets using Symbian, Android and Windows Mobile over another few years and it is not clear enough how many of its phones will be using the in-hose operating system bada versus other systems provided by other producers.

It supports one- or two-finger input and is designed for operating systems like Windows 7, which recognize this kind of input. The 21.5-inch, full HD LCD display is a high quality one, taking into consideration that it is a TN-based panel, with 50,000:1 contrast ratio, a 2-milisecond response time and 83 percent color gamut.

The screen resolution is 1080-pixel. It has DVI or VGA video input, a two-megapixel webcam and dual microphones. Touch and webcam signals are transmitted to the attached computer through a four-port USB hub. Facial recognition is possible in Windows Vista only.

The SX2210T can be bought in the United States at a price of $469.

HP LD4200 42-inch Widescreen LCD Monitor http://www.htlounge.net/art/8640/hp-ld4200-42-inch-widescreen-lcd-monitor.html http://www.htlounge.net/art/8640/hp-ld4200-42-inch-widescreen-lcd-monitor.html#comments Fri, 16 Oct 2009 08:03:31 +0000 adina http://www.htlounge.net/?p=8640 HP brings a new giant meant to public spaces, meeting halls and anywhere dgital signage is needed, where it can be used as a shopping display or interactive map. It is a 42-inch touchscreen, LCD display, TFT matrix, that uses infrared and imaging sensors able to recognize two-point gestures, like zooming by pinching. This solution was adopted because capacitive touchscreens are more costly. The new giant display can be used with operating systems that recognize touch.

Plans for delivering the LD4200 are for December this year at a price of $2,799.

Image quality is good enough for a touchscreen of its size. It has a maximum resolution of 1920×1080/60 MHz, a 1,000:1 and 3,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio, a 72 percent color gamut, a 9 ms pixel response time, a wide viewing angle of 178 degree horizontal as well as vertical, HDMI, VGA as input signal and 220 Watt power consumption.

This widescreen LCD monitor has a VESA mounting pattern on the back for wall-mounting, which means there will be less cables and clutter.

News from Nokia: a New Generation Smartphone Platform http://www.htlounge.net/art/8531/news-from-nokia-a-new-generation-smartphone-platform.html http://www.htlounge.net/art/8531/news-from-nokia-a-new-generation-smartphone-platform.html#comments Mon, 12 Oct 2009 06:39:42 +0000 adina http://www.htlounge.net/?p=8531 Look for both portrait and landscape support, multitouch, capacitive touchscreens, and a desktop significantly larger than the display, which can be navigated either vertically or horizontally: Nokia’s Maemo 6 comes with all these in 2010.

The Linux-based OS will align with modern platforms like iPhone or webOS. Until now, the software has depended on single-touch resistive (pressure-dependent) screens incapable of gestures or other more precise movements.

Compared to its predecessor, Maemo 5, Maemo 6 will treat the device screen as a window on the desktop, which it calls “the canvas principle”. The desktop window contains widgets and controls and the device pans over it.

According to the preliminary development kit schedule, a Beta version of the Qt development framework and Beta of Nokia Web Runtime for Maemo 6 will be ready in the second quarter of 2010.

At the same time, Nokia claims it has ported Qt to the Maemo 5 mobile platform, which will allow developers to not only write mobile applications for devices such as Nokia N900 but also easily convert them to Symbian or Windows Mobile phones.

The final release of Maemo 5 OS is due for early in 2010, while Maemo 6 is expected in late 2010.

Wacom’s New Multi-Touch Tablets http://www.htlounge.net/art/8374/wacom%e2%80%99s-new-multi-touch-tablets.html http://www.htlounge.net/art/8374/wacom%e2%80%99s-new-multi-touch-tablets.html#comments Sun, 27 Sep 2009 21:00:28 +0000 aura http://www.htlounge.net/?p=8374 New models from Wacom tend towards a break away from the company’s pen-only approach. The Bamboo Touch, Bamboo Pen & Touch, Bamboo Fun and Bamboo Craft all have a multi-touch surface used for navigation, ranging from basic moves like a basic tap select or mouse-like input to two-finger pinching for zoom and twisting to rotate images.

Each model is enriched with a much thinner 8.6 mm design with four shortcut keys for common tasks. At the forefront of the range are the $199 Bamboo Fun and $129 Craft, with a silver design as well as with styluses and copies of Adobe Photoshop Elements, Corel Painter Essentials and Nik Color Efex Pro. The Pen & Touch costs $99 in its small size, comes in black, and drops Painter Essentials from the bundle.
Wacom’s lowest end models are single-purpose: the Bamboo Touch at $69 has no pen and no software bundle, while the $69 Bamboo Pen is the only model to go without multi-touch, using the pen alone, and gets Painter Essentials in exchange.

All the tablets should be available in early October and will support recent versions of both Mac OS X and Windows, including Snow Leopard and Windows 7.
