The new drive is available in three capacities, at 16GB, 32GB and 64GB, providing, compared to the USB 2.0, much faster transfer speeds. Practical estimates show that it has a write speed of 60MBps and a read speed of 80MBps.

In order to guarantee backwards compatibility with USB 2.0 drives, there is a Y cable included with each Ultimate 3.0 thumb drive. According to Kingston’s tests, a 3.9GB movie may be copied to the drive in only 1 minute and 13 seconds. Kingston’s 16GB Ultimate 3.0 USB drive will be sold under a $89 price tag, the 32GB variant will cost $138, while the 64GB model will be priced at $270.

Unusual Deal – Movies on Flash Memory http://www.htlounge.net/art/9181/unusual-deal-movies-on-flash-memory.html http://www.htlounge.net/art/9181/unusual-deal-movies-on-flash-memory.html#comments Wed, 04 Nov 2009 15:45:05 +0000 adina http://www.htlounge.net/?p=9181 Movies available on SD cards or USB flash drives may sound strange enough but this is the subject of a most recent deal concluded between Kingston and Paramount. The latter’s movies could be sold on such media in the near future. The two partners didn’t provide any details on the formats but it’s certain that the movies will come both in bundles and individually.

Providing movies on other storage than optical could contribute to a wider spreading of video productions to systems not provided with DVD or Blu-ray drives, such as handhelds or netbooks. In order to fit into 2GB of memory or even less, movies will be in standard definition.

The two companies didn’t mention the release date yet.

New 40GB SATA Drive by Kingston http://www.htlounge.net/art/8942/new-40gb-sata-drive-by-kingston.html http://www.htlounge.net/art/8942/new-40gb-sata-drive-by-kingston.html#comments Tue, 27 Oct 2009 17:06:42 +0000 adina http://www.htlounge.net/?p=8942 Kingston’s new 2.5-inch SATA drive named SSDNow V is meant to cover a specific area of storage devices. It’s a 40GB boot drive and it isn’t intended to be used as a traditional primary storage. Its destination is that of a system drive, able to speed up the operating system and critical applications as well. It’s inexpensive enough to be paired with a second rotating disk drive, much larger, that would handle common storage and applications. The speed of the new drive is 170MB per second for reading and 40MB per second for writing and, even if not the fastest, it’s still almost four times faster than a conventional drive.

The SSDNow V drive ships on November 9th and will be available in two versions. The first one is for notebooks, priced at $115. The second one is presented in a 3.5-inch mounting bracket provided with extenders to have attached a main board’s power and SATA cables, priced at $130.
