HD DVD LG

Although everyone else seems to agree that HD DVD is dead and we should all be getting ready to buy our Blu-ray players (if we haven't already), there's one company that refuses to let the sinking ship hit the bottom of the sea.

LG has announced that they will continue to produce dual format HD DVD/Blu-ray players and they'll even launch new ones that support both high-definition formats.

This comes in stark contrast to Toshiba's announcement of dropping the HD DVD format. It's almost strange, because Toshiba was the company that backed HD DVD the most. In terms of continued support, Samsung is phasing out their dual format players as well, so this might actually be a decent business strategy for LG in the short term, leaving them to be the only bonafide manufacturer to still support both formats.

Realistically, however, there's not much of a point. Seeing how Wal-Mart, Best Buy, Blockbuster, Netflix, and all these other big dogs are abandoning HD DVD in favor of going Blu-ray exclusive, is there really any point in supporting HD DVD anymore?
