Sony Ericsson G700i G900i Mobile World Congress

Sony Ericsson has several lines of phones, each of which are targeting a particular segment of the market.

They've got the Walkman line (W-series) that focuses on music, the Cyber-shot line (K-series) that likes to take pictures, and so forth. And now it seems like they've got another series on the way.

Sony Ericsson is expanding their alphabet again with the rumored unveiling of a G-series of mobile phones, though it seems that it's a little unclear exactly which segment they are approaching. Set for unveiling at the Mobile World Congress (formerly known as 3GSM), the Sony Ericsson G700i and G900i sound like they've got some rather formidable feature sets and I think they're going to be smartphones.

The lower-end G700i -- codenamed Josephine -- gets a 2.6-inch display and a 3.2 megapixel camera, whereas the higher-end G900i -- codenamed Tyra -- gets the same 2.6-inch display, accompanied by a 5-megapixel camera and WLAN connectivity. It'll be interesting to see what kind of form factors (and price points) these two handsets will take.
