You may have heard a story earlier today about Sony confirming the existence of a PlayStation Phone (also known as the PSPhone).
That story has now been debunked, because Sony is denying any rumors suggesting a PlayStation-branded cell phone. It's not a ho-hum, standing on the fence kind of denial either. You can put all of your speculative gestures away, at least for now.
It was reported that Sony Computer Entertainment's co-chief operating officer, Jim Ryan, told The Economic Times that a convergence between the PlayStation and Ericsson arms was "definitely plausible", just as the company has integrated Walkman, Bravia, and Cyber-shot branding into their handsets. That was apparently a misquote though, according to a Sony UK spokesperson.
The spokesperson goes on to say that "we do have talks with other arms of the Sony family about various topics but I can confirm we are not currently working together on the creation of a PlayStation Phone." That's currently, folks. After Sony catches wind of how excited we would be about a PSPhone, they'll surely start tinkering with the idea.
