HP iPAQ 600 Series Navigator Gets FCC Approval

HP may be the biggest computer company in the world, but they haven't made much of a splash in the mobile smartphone department.

The HP iPAQ 600 Series smartphone isn't wholly different than what they offered before, but it does have an interesting feature that prevents the simultaneous use of both WLAN and WWAN HSDPA.


You see, if you happen to be surfing the 'net through WiFi and then a phone call comes in, it will temporarily shutdown your WLAN connection to receive the call. This might be in an effort to conserve battery, but I think it'll create more headaches than convenience. It's also interesting that there is no conventional five-way navigator; instead, there appears to be some sort of touch sensitive wheel overlaying on the numeric keypad.

No word on availability, but given that the FCC has approved this device, the HP iPAQ 600 Series smartphone -- bandied about as the B94HH14CN at the FCC -- should get announced soon.
