Just because this BMW is a 1-series doesn't mean that it's some crappy econobox that you should quickly dismiss. Quite the contrary, because the 135i boasts a powerful 3.0L twin-turbocharged engine that develops a very formidable 300hp at 5800rpm. And this isn't just all top-end power either.

No need to worry about any sort of turbo lag, because you get access to 300 lbs-ft of torque at 1400-1500rpm. That's plenty of umph to get you started, and then those 300 horses will keep you rocketing around the track faster than you can say, "Wow, this is a 1-series?"

The strategy that BMW employed to produce such a powerful powerplant is multi-faceted. For starters, it's got direct plezo gasoline injectors, as well as twin low-mass turbochargers and air-to-air intercooling. Taken as a whole, this allows optimum performance and economy to be achieved "with no loss in engine response."
