GM Vehicles Are Planned To Have Blind Spot Detection

When you're cruising around town in a big honking SUV, you can also have some rather massive blind spots.

GM is hoping to rectify this situation with a specialized blind spot detection system, similar to how backup cameras and sensors work on a lot of new vehicles these days.


The system "that will detect vehicles that could potentially be in a driver's blind spot" appears to fundamentally identical to the system that can currently be found on the Volvo S80. The warning will be shown on the side mirrors, however, unlike the Volvo system that puts the warning on the A-pillar.

General Motors plans to offer this system as a factory option on select Buick and Cadillac models. No word on pricing, but the Volvo system costs $595.
