AMD-powered Notebooks Toshiba

Choo choo! All aboard! Following in the footsteps of Dell, Toshiba Corp. has announced that they will begin to buy microprocessors from AMD for use in their notebook computers, effectively ending an exclusive relationship with Intel. The world's fourth largest laptop PC maker expects to use AMD processors in about 20% of their laptops. AMD-powered notebooks will be up to $82 cheaper than equivalently-equipped Intel-powered models.

The plan is to integrate the AMD chips in "moderate-priced standard models for individual and corporate clients," according to spokeswoman Yuko Sugahara. At this time, Intel is still dominating the market with an 80% share, but AMD is slowly but surely creeping up on them.

Toshiba's stock price took a fairly significant hike on the news, going up about 1.0 percent.
