As promised, Verizon Wireless announced today that the BlackBerry 8830 World Edition Smartphone is now available through all retail outlets.
As you recall, this globe-trotting business device provides voice calls in over 160 countries and wireless email in over 90 countries around the world. While at home in the United States, you'll get the Verizon CDMA service that you already know and love, but while abroad, the unlocked SIM slot can be used to access various GSM carriers. Interestingly, they've only unlocked the 900/1800 MHz GSM radios, probably to deter you from using the 8830 with Cingular AT&T or T-Mobile.
Other key specs include auto-selection of CDMA/GSM mode, 14mm thin form factor, trackball navigation (like the Pearl), media player, microSD expansion, speakerphone, and Bluetooth. Get your BlackBerry 8830 World Edition today for $300 with a 2-year contract. Sign up for a "qualifying voice and data plan" to get another $100 knocked off the price.
