Many die hard purists scoff at the idea of having a speedy hybrid or one that comes powered by fuel cells. Ford is ready to dispel that myth. The blue oval of a car manufacturer has partnered up with Ohio State University "to attempt a double land speed record for fuel cell-powered vehicles."

OSU's battery-powered Buckeye Bullet currently holds the land speed record for "electrically driven vehicles" at 315mph, but they're ready to head into the next frontier. The car's successor, aptly named the Buckeye Bullet 2, will shoot for the unlimited fuel cell powered vehicle class, whereas Ford will take the same powerplant, plunk it into the Ford Fusion XV1, and take a shot at the production fuel cell vehicle class.

The plan is to hold the trial in Bonneville. More information should become available in the weeks and months to come.
