Is crime that much worse in the U.K.? It must be, judging by the amount of latitude given the British police lately. Just a few days ago, we heard about an air force of hovering drones about to take off in one part of the country. Now comes word that Manchester, no small city, is about to outfit its traffic wardens with webcams so that driving offenders can have their offenses broadcast to the wide world.
No chance of claiming that it's not your car illegally parked if an officer can show your vehicle's license on the Internet. Reporting of parking offenses will be much more streamlined, but they will be much more efficient? We hope the wardens don't stop carrying their trusty notebooks, in case of a broadband slowdown or power outage. That would be disastrous.
Those in the know in Manchester say that people who feel themselves wronged by traffic wardens can have equal access to the video footage, in an attempt to prove their innocence. Of course, law enforcement personnel who have access to video editing technology might find themselves winning most of those appeals.
