Hitachi Claims Their Travelstar 7K200 HDD Is the World's Fastest 2.5-inch Platter

Typically, one of the trade-offs that you get when you opt for a laptop-sized 2.5-inch hard drive is that you must endure slower data access speeds. Hitachi has overcome this shortcoming with the Travelstar 7K200 HDD, which they claim is the world's fastest 2.5-inch platter. Other 2.5-inchers only spin around at 5400rpm, but this one has the full 7200rpm rotation that you get with full-sized 3.5-inch hard drives.
They've started production already, so the Travelstar 7K200 HDD should be available to OEMs and in stores pretty soon. Hitachi is creating five different capacities: 80GB, 100GB, 120GB, 160GB, and 200GB. The rest of the specs include a max transfer speed of 876MBps (22% faster than its predecessor), a 16MB cache, 29dB of noise, and a power consumption rating of 2.6W. No word on pricing.
