People Think iPhone Is Expensive

Markitecture recently conducted a national survey of 1,300 "responsible cell phone owners" and they found some rather interesting results surrounding what people know about the Apple iPhone. There's no denying that there is a lot of buzz surrounding Apple's maiden voyage into the cellular phone market, and while it was initially just the tech savvy Mac geeks that knew about the device, it is really starting to catch on in the mainstream. This is intriguing, considering that Apple hasn't done all that much in terms of television spots.


In any case, of the 1,300 respondents, a full 77% said that they were familiar with the iPhone. Of that 77%, 83% said that they had an overall "excellent impression of the product", indicating that they liked the features, the form factor, and what the Apple iPhone had to offer. Unfortunately, when the question came to whether they would actually buy an iPhone within the next year, only 6% of respondents said yes. By contrast, 2/3 of respondents said that there was "zero chance of purchase."

When asked why they wouldn't buy the iPhone, the number one responses was the price. And let's not forget about the fairly hefty data plans that accompany in order to make full use of the iPhone.
