Who says computer gamers should have all the fun? The folks at BT are incorporating gaming technology into a handheld USB dongle device that could ultimately enable disabled people to use computers without relying on keyboards or mice.
The key is a bank of movement sensors that can be plugged into any standard laptop or tablet. The sensors work in concert with dedicated software that takes movement "commands" and runs them through a series of processor-like functions, resulting in the same kind of instructions that keys and mouse clicks send to the CPU.
Other potential users of the technology are field engineers and others who might not have an ideal typing or clicking surface.
BT is still refining its device, which might see the light of day in the open market in a few years.
