The latest episode of Revision3’s Diggnation show revealed some rumours about an unexpectedly low-cost of the Apple tablet. Presenter Alex Albrecht, during the second half of the show, claimed that, according to personal information, the cost of the Apple tablet could be under general expectations. He said he was surprised to see how low this price would be. This leak coming from Alex Albrecht is a little bit unusual, because Digg’s founder, Kevin Rose, is usually floating rumours about Apple products. Although being sometimes very inaccurate, he has revealed information that has proven to be true, like some photos of the iPod nano 2008, copy-and-paste in iPhone 3.0 or iTunes 8. Whether Albrecht has picked the information on his own or has got second-hand information from Rose, what is sure is that Albrecht lives in Los Angeles, while Rose lives much closer to Apple, in San Francisco.
Apple’s tablet has been subject to many rumours, mainly regarding its release date. Some of them placed this date in the first quarter of 2010, while others said the shipment could only be possible later in 2010 due to high costs of screen technology. As for Apple, it never confirmed the device, although information about a multi-touch, 10-inch product powered by OS X iPhone and a new concept of e-book library has leaked.
Guest John Hodgman, speaking about his role in Apple’s “Get a Mac” ads, noted that Apple had never given him inside information about its new products, which would have been irrelevant to his ads, and that it was rare to him to receive products for free. However, early in the campaign, he received a free MacBook Pro and iPod but since then he has paid for everything else.
