Barnes & Noble delays Nook pre-orders again

Barnes & Noble recently noted that pre-orders made for the Nook have been delayed a second time, to January 11th. This delay comes very quickly after a first one targeted for the beginning of 2010. The company has not given any additional explanation. It has already promised to those customers whose Nooks will ship only after Christmas to receive free “IOU” cards.

Amazon has also experienced shortages for Kindle sales during the first two holidays, but the situation changed this year when it has all models in stock. More technically complex because of its Wi-Fi and secondary touchscreen, and due to the lack of experience of Barnes & Noble with designing and manufacturing its own hardware, the Nook is facing repeated delays and it is not clear if this is due to excessively tight supply or to sheer demand.
