Intel has released a new firmware version and a firmware update tool that relates to an earlier issue supposed to corrupt users’ data. The original firmware update included a flaw for the TRIM feature that informs the controller of the SSD when data blocks are no longer available and could corrupt the data on the SSD this way. By simply setting a password for the drive in the BIOS the error is triggered.

The 02HD firmware version as well as the 1.5 firmware update tool version can now be downloaded for the 2.5-inch MLC 34 nanometer X25-M SSDs in 80GB and also 160GB capacities. The new firmware version is meant to work with Windows 7 64-bit operating system and comes with TRIM support for both capacities of SSDs and also enables faster sequential write speeds for the 160GB drive.
