It seems that Pixel Qi is planning to mass-produce the 3gi unique displays during December and a new TV too, later on. The new screens will be an innovation in netbooks displays and small computers – they can act like a full colour LCD, as well as like an e-paper; this could be useful in energy saving, but also in bright daylight.
The company, which was created by one of the One Laptop Per Child project designers, is also planning to produce a low-cost TV for those parts in the world that are still developing; as a matter of fact, here, regular, ample power is not common at all. The screen seems to consume less than 10W, whereas, for normal LCDs and plasmas, the consume would be of hundred of watts. Pixel Qi says that the new TV won’t probably cost more than $100, but the company hasn’t yet officially announced the exact shipping date for the TV, nor if they will work for its development with another company.
