On November 25, 2009, the DVR maker TiVo and Virgin Media, the UK-based cable provider, announced the start of their partnership. This means that TiVo will be developing the next-generation TV platform from Virgin. TiVo’s expertise will be used for the creation of a custom interface for the new Virgin HD boxes. As a result, Virgin will be the only provider to distribute TiVo’s service and hardware in the UK.
A fiber optic network is used by Virgin Media in the UK; this will offer great interaction speed with the video-on-demand feature.
So far, TiVo is only available in Canada, Australia and USA. Virgin’s DVR and non-DVR boxes will be powered by Virgin Media. Their first co-branded product will most probably ship somewhere in 2010.
