The demo for a Qualcomm smartbook prototype could have given some more info on the new Lenovo smartbook, available for AT&T, including the OS chosen. Its design seems to be similar to the publicly displayed system of Lenovo. The system runs on a fast 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor and could run Android. This shows that Google’s OS is one of the candidates for the smartbook. Some time ago, Lenovo seemed to decide using a proprietary Linux release instead of Android.
Full specs of the reference design are yet to be known, but some of the additional features include AT&T-supplied 3G, Wi-Fi and an 8-hour autonomy for the battery. Lenovo has recently declared, for Electronista, that the design belongs to Quanta, but also that a Taiwanese firm could manufacture a similar Lenovo too.
The official release of Lenovo’s sub-netbook computer is expected to happen at CES, in January.
