ASUS is going to release the G72GX notebook early next year, according to the Chinese source Digitimes. The notebook is a 17.3-inch 3D device, based on an Intel Core i7 processor, 4GB of memory, two 320GB hard drives and GeForce GTS 160M graphics. Before releasing the G72GX model, ASUS will launch a smaller version with almost identical specifications, but a 15.6-inch size. This version will be named G51J3D. Pegatron will be contracted to manufacture these two 3D notebooks.
Both versions will use optimized displays provided with shutter glasses, in order to attain the desired effect. Other notebook manufacturers, like Acer, rely on polarized glasses instead. Acer’s Aspire 5738DG uses such a simpler technology and this reflects directly in the price. ASUS notebooks are therefore expected to have higher prices than the starting price of the Acer notebook in the United States, i.e. over $780.
In the near future, Hewlett Packard and Dell are also expected to launch similar 3D notebooks.
