Three new 32-nanometer dual-core-based ultra thin notebooks are planned to be released by Intel in the first half of 2010. The 1.2GHz Intel Core i7-640UM, 1.06GHz Intel Core i7-620UM and 1.06GHz Intel Core i5-520UM will be used mid- to high-end ultraportables and will replace current 1.6GHz Intel Core 2 Duo SU9600 processors. The two Core i7 models that are the faster in the series support Hyperthreading (four logical processor cores), 4MB of L3 cache and DDR3-800 support and sometimes behave as quad-core models.

In addition, more new-generation notebooks will be released in the summer of 2010. The new series includes mid-level notebooks based on two more new processors, as well as others for the entry-level, some of them using earlier-generation hardware. A new Celeron chip, single-core, is meant to replace the current Celeron 743 and will offer better performance for the same price. A lower-cost dual-core Celeron will be released in mid 2010. The time has come for Core 2 Solo SU3500, SU2300 and SU7300 CPUs, considered part of Intel’s CULV family, to no more being used. As for desktops, Intel will also ship the first 32-nanometer processors in January next year, in batches of 1,000 prices, including Intel Core i5-670 and Intel Core i5-661 chips with prices of $176 and $284, respectively.

The prices for the Core i7-640UM, Core i7-620UM and Core i5-520UM will be $305, $278 and $241, respectively, in 1,000-unit tray quantities. Consequently, notebooks will be priced at about $500 in the first half of next year, for those equipped with the Pine Trail-M platform. Ultra thin notebooks will have prices between $600 and $800 in the next year’s third quarter.
