The Japanese provider Softbank that also promised an Android-based smartphone by the spring of 2010 recently revealed a new line of handsets. There will be seventeen models to sell until next spring.

The Android device will have a 3.7-inch OLED screen and will be powered by Qualcomm’s 1GHz Snapdragon processor. This processor equips many smartphones lately.

The line includes the dynapocket X02T, that is a Toshiba-built version of the TG01 running on Windows Mobile 6.5 and uses the same processor as the Android device, the 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon. This device is considered as a Japanese rebadge of the European TG02. It also has a 4.1-inch touchscreen as well as a 3.2-megapixel camera.

The X01SC from Samsung is Windows Mobile 6.5-powered and one of the first Japanese Windows Mobile handsets based on the Intrepid. With a full QWERTY keyboard, a 2.4-inch QVGA screen and a 320×240 resolution, the X01SC sports a 528MHz Qualcomm MSM7225 processor. Bluetooth and Wi-Fi are also supported. One of the highlights of this handset is its size, which can make it very desirable in the Japanese market.

Sharp is present with the AQUOS 941SH, a four-inch touchscreen with half VGA resolution, 220MB of internal memory and an eight-megapixel camera provided with auto focus. Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and a 1Seg TV tuner are also available. The handset will use the e-book store and the VOD service of Softbank. Sharp’s AQUOS 940SH, also named Shot, has a 12.1-megapixel camera with auto focus with a touch-to-focus function on its screen and is able to capture one hundred 320×240 photos in only a few seconds through its burst mode. The other features are similar to AQUOS 941SH.

Another handset, the Panasonic-built 941P, is a gaming and multimedia device with a 1Seg TV tuner and Final Fantasy IV preloaded. It also has Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, a GPS sensor and an 8.1-megapixel camera. The handset will provide services such as e-book and video on demand.

All these handsets will be released in Japan between November this year and March 2010, but there is no information about their prices to date.
