Bowers & Wilkins announced the MM-1, its latest computer speakers set. Each speaker includes a one-inch tweeter and a three-inch woofer, each driver being powered by an 18-Watt amplifier. The tweeters sport B&W’s Nautilus design to improve high-frequency response and suppress resonance.

DSP (Digital Signal Processing) components are integrated to adjust sound balance according to the input signal. The speakers can convert digital to analogue signal when connected to a computer, in order to get an improved sound. Headphones can be plugged into the MM-1, which has an integrated amplifier able to provide significantly better output than a standard PC or Mac.

The frequency response is -6 dB at 57 Hz and 22 kHz. Many tower speakers are designed for listening at a certain distance, while the MM-1 is optimized for listening from a few feet. An auxiliary jack is meant for attaching iPods or DVD and CD players. The MM-1 speakers are a USB audio device, so the remote should be capable of much more than just volume adjustment, but no further details have been given.

The MM-1 will be ready to ship in February but there is no information about the price yet.
