The E-P2 Micro Four Thirds camera will probably be ready for shipping in January next year. Compared to its predecessor, the E-P1, it will sport AF motion tracking which fixes an E-P1 related complaint of slow auto focusing. A new option is represented by the electronic viewfinder which is high-resolution – 1.44 megapixels – and can pivot up to 90 degrees off-axis. The E-P2 camera keeps the 12-megapixel sensor and 3FPS, as well as other features of the E-P1. The camera has also an optional stereo microphone which increases the sound quality for the 720-pixel movies. Other features are the new i-Enhance which artificially increases colour saturation, as well as other improved ones, the Art Filter modes with Diorama and Cross Process software effects that improve both movies and still pictures. The white and silver camera models are now added a black version.
The E-P2 seems to be rather un upgrade of the E-P1 than a totally new product, maybe the camera the designers intended to make. The E-P2 camera will cost £849 ($1,407) for a 14-42-millimeter lens model. An announcement is expected for the United States where the same camera with VF-2 electronic viewfinder and a 17-millimeter pancake or a 14-42-millimeter zoom lens will be priced at about $1100.
