The Aspire 8940 is an upgrade of the 8935 notebook and will take its place as the Acer’s flagship. It features the much faster 1.6GHz Intel Core i7 720QM processor instead of the Intel Core 2 Quad of the Aspire 8935. The newer NVIDIA GeForce GTS 250M graphics adapter with 1GB of DDR3 VRAM is used to improve the 18.4-inch, 1,080-pixel high-definition display performance. The machine will ship with 4GB of DDR3 RAM and a 500GB hard disk drive. For ports, the eSata and HDMI are included, as well as 5 USB 2.0 ports and a built-in multi-card reader. The Vista operating system has been replaced with Windows 7. The Aspire 8940 still has the 5.1-channel speaker system, as well as touch-sensitive media controls the 8935 had. Acer is powering the notebook with a 4800mAh capacity, eight-cell Li-Ion battery.
Prices can vary according to the hardware configuration, but a top version with the Blu-Ray option, 4GB of RAM and 500MB of storage, as well as with a fully-loaded NVIDIA graphics, will cost $1350. Ship dates are not yet available but the Aspire 8940 will be in time for the holidays.
