Sprint has announced the launch of its 4G WiMAX service in Chicago, Dallas-Fort Worth, and throughout North Carolina in Chapel Hill, Durham, Charlotte, High Point, Greensboro, Raleigh and Winston-Salem. Turbo-charged web browsing, fast uploads and downloads, as well as streaming video will be available not only from home, from the office or from the coffee shop, but also when crossing the city. Downstream speeds of 3Mbps up to 6Mbps will be provided, allowing video, VoIP and other tasks out of bounds 3G.
The service relies on a $70 monthly plan offering 5GB of 3G and unlimited 4G transfers. Those users who are visitors to a particular area can benefit from unlimited 4G during their visit by paying $10 for a day. The primary device for the network is Sprint’s dual-mode 4G/3G U300 USB modem. Some netbooks and other devices owners can also connect to Sprint’s WiMAX.
