More Android phones will be available through Sprint Nextel in the near future, as an executive of the company recently revealed. An Android device with integrated MiFi-style router is considered, and also upgrades of the operating systems will come for the Android-powered Samsung Moment and HTC Hero, the version being 2.0 or at least 1.6.
Other devices supporting both GSM and CDMA are also planned for 2010, as well as many more HTC phones, most of them Android-based. More BlackBerries will also be added to the current offering in 2010. Such a new model could be the so-named Essex, provided with Wi-Fi and a trackpad.
Windows phones are also planned to be released in 2010. Sprint Nextel wants to have Windows Mobile 7, but the ball is now in Microsoft’s court. However, Windows Mobile 6.5 updates are considered to be tested for the HTC Touch Pro2. Sprint will also launch WiMAX-ready devices in 2010.
After Verizon Wireless, AT&T, and T-Mobile have launched their unlimited calling plans, Sprint Nextel has also announced a revolutionary domestic unlimited pricing plan, named Simply Everything. The Simply Everything plan provides users “everything”, i.e. unlimited voice, data, e-mail, Web-surfing, text, Sprint Music, Sprint TV, GPS Navigation, Group Connect and Direct Connect for only $99.99 per month, even better than other companies’ unlimited plans. David Owens, executive at Sprint Nextel, said that the carrier would not tether for smartphones to the Simply Everything plan, which includes now all of its handsets.
