EpixHD is offering recent movies in high definition video with no ads included – which is a remarkable thing – and is a viable and challenging alternative to Internet-based TV sources. Other competing services, such as On Demand Online from Comcast have been limited to only trial markets. EpixHD is surely a competitor of online movie services which have nothing to do with conventional TV, such as Netflix, iTunes or Hulu.
Verizon has made the step of becoming the first provider to offer EpixHD streaming video to its users as a part of its service. Epix’s on-demand channel added to a FiOS TV package is $10 per month and addresses those users who have FiOS Internet connection as well as a FiOS TV subscription with the Epix TV channel. They can watch an unlimited amount of movies at up to 720-pixel. For the beginning, 150 movie titles will be in rotation online, but 15,000 titles will be available, including both old and new productions. Producers such as MGM, Paramount or Lionsgate will add their most recent movies to this service.
