Lenovo began selling a version of the IdeaPad S12 netbook, equipped with NVIDIA’s Ion graphics, even if significantly delayed past the scheduled summer launch.
This upgraded version is accompanied by the Windows 7 Home Premium operating system, giving it full power to support the Aero Glass interface and to decode 1,080-pixel video. The IdeaPad S12 includes Quick Start, a Lenovo branded version of the Splashtop instant-on operating system. The Quick Start applications include a Web browser, photo viewer, music player, IM and Skype clients and flash games portal. Bluetooth 2.1 is added for wireless peripherals. The Ion-equipped IdeaPad S12 is $599 but doubles the total RAM to 2GB with a 250GB hard drive. Another configuration sports up to 3GB of RAM with a 320GB hard drive. Both models rely on a 1.6GHz Atom processor and a 1,280×800 display resolution. Power is provided by a six-cell battery.
