The United States Justice Department is investigating Sony’s US optical drive division for antitrust concerns. Antitrust regulators are trying to take a closer look at Sony’s optical disk drive operations.
Being the focus of the investigation, Sony Optiarc America produces the Sony line of optical disk drives for DVD, CD, and Blu-ray media formats. Sony didn’t reveal which products are of interest for this investigation, but if we follow the gossip circles, it is likely something to do with Blu-ray.
Blu-ray’s prices would normally have to follow the traditional price declination expected from a high technology released over three years ago. In fact, despite HD-DVD vanishing from the picture, prices have remained the same over that time.
Sony officials ascertained to fully cooperate with the US Justice Department and any other agencies being involved in this inquiry.
