In a recent interview with Popular Mechanics, the game designer Shigeru Miyamoto revealed that the next Wii console will probably be smaller and will have a lower price, as the general trend is that hardware also shrinks and prices almost always get lower. He also said the company would possibly extend the device’s basic functionality beyond its use as a toy. Miyamoto accepted that Wii, between many other consoles, is not an exception and is mainly designed for gaming. He also insisted that this video-game system is essentially a computer and therefore can be improved as such. Video games themselves are moving from entertainment to something much more serious.

Miyamoto also said that, due to the fact that the Wii is a so interesting interface, it surely deserves much more attention and some developing plans to make it functionally more efficient and perhaps more cost-efficient.

It seems that additional features such as an HD video playback could be envisaged for the future, as many other of its competitors did.

Miyamoto doesn’t think that the graphics itself is the only thing to make the gameplay experience better, but he is sure that the company has still to focus on the gameplay, but will, of course, take advantage of new technology as it occurs.
