Hewlett Packard completes its Compaq displays with a multi-touch monitor, one of the first mainstream displays. The multitouch L2105 LCD monitor has a 21.5-inch diagonal and a built-in optical sensor recognizing two-point touch input available for operating systems that support it. It also has an included stylus to serve very precise applications or artwork. The fixed-height panel avoids shifting around while using the monitor. The 21.5 inch monitor has a CCFL backlight. As for the multi-touch feature, it achieves the same effect with two cameras and an infrared light and sensor combined with a reflective field. Even the shadow of a finger on the touch interface triggers off the sensor to respond to your actions.

The resolution of the screen is 1080-pixel. The L2105 uses a TN panel with a 72 percent colour gamut and a 170-degree viewing angle. The contrast ratio is a static 1000:1 and the response time is 5ms pixel. The monitor will provide up to 270cd/m2 brightness. Video input is possible only through DVI and VGA. A built-in two-watt speaker system provides sound in workplaces where external speakers can’t be used.

Officially designed for Windows 7, the L2105 will also work with earlier Windows versions, other platforms being able to recognize touch input through an USB slot.

The HP Compaq L2105 multitouch touchscreen monitor will be priced at $299, with shipments beginning next week.
