Without making a big fuss about it, Intel has updated its chip range named Core i7, offering the 3.2GHz i7-960 processor. This is a Bloomfield core-based chip. This socket LGA-1366 processor is designed to work on motherboards with the Intel X58 Express chipset, having a maximum Turbo Boost speed of 3.46 GHz. The 45nm chip has a 4.8 GTps QuickPath Interconnect speed and supports up to 24 GB of DDR3 memory with its triple-channel (192-bit wide) interface. It has four processing cores and by means of the HyperThreading Technology can provide the operating system with eight logical CPUs. Each processing core has a dedicated L2 cache of 256 KB and an 8 MB L3 cache is shared between all four cores. The power use peak is 130W.

The i7-960 has a 64-bit-based instruction set and SSE4.2 instruction set extensions.

The newest addition to the Core i7 desktop processor family will be found at prices of $562 in 1000 unit tray quantities.
