Nokia’s Comes With Music is an unlimited service allowing buyers of the specially-labelled handsets to download music and keep it even after a one year period of contract. July data shows that only 107,227 users worldwide subscribed for this service, even if it was largely promoted by Nokia and all the major music sites. Expectations were greater than that, but it seems that buyers were not eager to have this service available even with the possibility of having a whole year to expand.
Worse than that, this month could show a significant decrease of the number of subscribers, as UK residents are the first ones to come to the end of this built-in service and may not choose to renew their contracts.
The sharp competition with alternative solutions like 7digital or Spotify, inexistent in other areas, but present in Europe, not to speak about iTunes, which is strongly-based there, could be the explanation for the poor number of subscribers to Comes With Music.
Nokia’s officials, however, without trying to explain this phenomenon, continue to claim that this is still a very young service and it hasn’t had the opportunity to grow enough by now. They even promise to expand this service in more countries, as well as to present other deals in the next future.
