With a 6-inch E-ink EPD (Electronic Paper Display) meant for reading and a 3.5-inch LCD colour touchscreen for browsing and playing content such as photos, video, audio and other, Alex from Spring Design is a high performance e-book reader. The whole platform is Android-based and has integrated both displays in order to allow the capture a web article on the LCD, through the Duet Navigator feature, and then its presentation on the EPD for battery life saving.
The reader is able to support 3G through HSPA or EVDO and also keeps the option for Wi-Fi connection. It also packs a removable SD card as an extension of the internal memory, a speaker and a headphone jack.
There are no details yet regarding the companies which would use the new e-book reader, but Spring Design says that the device will be shipped to “selected strategic partners” sometime this year. It seems an EVDO version would be meant for North American countries.
Man, this thing looks like it beats all the other e-reading devices for functionality. I just hope battery life and cost are decent. Also hope the reader part can handle a wide range of formats.
