Liquid smartphone, initially called Donut, will be the first Android 1.6-powered touchscreen of Acer. It will be based upon a Qualcomm 1GHz Snapdragon CPU. A capacitive 3.5-inch touchscreen with a resolution of 800×480 pixel, Bluetooth 2.0, Wi-Fi and GPS are all present. The majority of storage space will be made up of a micro SDHC memory card. The interface will show favourite websites as thumbnails that the users can access by scrolling through. Quick access to Twitter, Facebook, MySpace or other social networks will be easy by using a special widget.

The device also includes a 5-megapixel camera that adds location information taken from the built-in GPS receiver to photos, so that you know where and when a shot was snapped. Songs and videos can also be played on the smartphone. Liquid is intended for Internet browsing, and provides high speed access through HSPA (High Speed Packet Access) mobile networks. There also is a miniUSB enhancing connectivity possibilities.

The device will run Android as well as Microsoft Windows, the users being able to switch between the two operating systems simply by clicking. Android will give access to the Web on start up, in just 18 second boot-up time. The operating system shuts down in 3 seconds.

The price is about $600 and the Acer Liquid handset will probably be available on the market in December.
