Dell Android Phone Next Year

Last year Dell was trying to produce an iPod competitor. The outrageous success of the iPod touch –a music device mostly but with the leverage of web access – hit a significant spot in the market. Dell tries now to bring smartphones to the United States, perhaps based on the Chinese mini 3i series. One of them will probably be an Android-based phone, but other platforms should also be considered.

The entire team of the “iPod Discovery” mission was re-assigned to a new team having the goal to produce an Android-based device a little bigger than the iPhone but without telephony capabilities.

It could be an upgrade of the mini 3i with a 5-megapixel camera and probably will have 3G and Wi-Fi. The operating system will not be Windows Mobile, as it seems, but maybe LiMo or Symbian, breaking this way Dell’s fidelity to Microsoft.
