Hewlett Packard recently presented its updates for Windows 7: a high-end tower Elite 7000 and two notebooks.
The desktop runs on Core i5 and i7 processors, being the first desktop that allows Novell SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop 11 instead of Windows. The memory is up to 8GB DDR3 SDRAM (1333Mhz) and the hard disk is a 160GB to 1TB 7,200 RPM HDD or 64GB SDD.
SATA DVD-ROM drive, SATA SuperMulti LightScribe DVD Writer Drive, HP SATA Blu-ray Writer, HP 22-in-1 Media Card Reader, two 5.25-inch drive bays and one 3.5-inch bay out front, two 3.5-inch bays inside, optional graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GT210; NVIDIA GeForce GT230; ATi Radeon HD 4550; ATi Radeon HD 4650 are technical features that make it very desirable. Everything is packed in a black, elegant, metal case and the price will start at $789.
The two notebooks are the first HP’s AMD-based ProBook portables. Models 6445b and 6545b are respectively 14-inch display running at 1,366×768 pixels and 15.6-inch running at either 1,366×768 or 1,600×900 pixels and use latest AMD Sempron Athlon II or Turion II processors.
Both notebooks launch at $799, this price having to be paid for a 2 GHz Sempron processor, 1 GB of RAM, a Mobility Radeon HD 4200 video board and a 160 GB hard disk drive. There is also WiFi a/b/g/n, Bluetooth, an optional EVDO/HSPA combo WWAN module, an ExpressCard 54 slot, and an optical drive (either DVD or Blu-ray) that can be switched out for a second 500GB hard-drive or a second battery.
Battery life is significantly increased by 60 percent, being now over 8 hours of runtime.
Shipping date is October 22nd, but mid-November for the United States.
