It seems BlackBerry Storm 2 will show up this week, according to The Guardian’s edition issued on October 11th. The same source says that this best challenger for the dominant Apple iPhone will be only £30 ($47), £4 ($7) cheaper than its opponent. First launch will be through Vodafone and its name will be 9520.
Another company, Verizon, will launch the same device under the name of 9550, but much later than Vodafone, possibly in November.
The Storm 2 is expecting to add Wi-Fi and a piezoelectric system that generates physical response but still allows multi-touch and fast typing, instead of the not very popular mechanical click-down touchscreen.
The new device keeps it’s predecessor’s controversial SurePress technology, which requires the user to press down the screen, rather than just touching it, in order to execute certain tasks. SurePress has been upgraded, making it much easier to use. RIM has also made the call pick-up, end, menu and back buttons (initially physical buttons) part of the touchscreen. The keys situated on the side of the device have been replaced by more durable rubber keys.
As some sources reveal that Orange has broken the O2’s two-year exclusive deal with Apple and will be stocking the iPhone in a few weeks, the BlackBerry Storm 2 seems to be on the right way to its success.
