The new gadget awaited by AMD customers is entitled Thuban and represents a six-core processor. The innovative AMD device represents an expanding of the organization`s Opteron series which has been presented rather recently for server configuration.

In the past an AMD employee stated to Maximum PC that: “We are all about platform longevity and long-lived upgrade paths.” In the past the company stated that its products are endowed with a higher adaptability for the clients compared with Intel`s chips that support only a specific plug shape. However, the new Thuban CPU will not be so compatible with present motherboards such as AM3 and AM2 because the device will be more evolved.

Even though the name has not been officially chosen yet, the Thuban processor is stated to become the Phenom II X6 brand when it will be released on the market. The clock speed have not been presented yet, but it seems that AMD company will develop the six cores in a 45 nanometers die and incorporate a 3 megabytes and a 6 megabytes L2 respectively L3 caches.

The purchasing price for AMD`s Thuban processor are not known yet. The launching date for the new gadget is said to be sometime next year.
