New details have been provided by Point Grey which regard its USB 3.0-connected HD video camera that will be featured at Intel Developers Forum. Alongside a variety of other USB 3.0 devices,it will be displayed between September 22nd and 24th.
The camera prototype integrates a 3-megapixel CMOS sensor manufactured by Sony. The sensor allows the camera to output raw, uncompressed 1080p images at 60 frames per second.
Communication with the computer is done by an USB 3.0 interface card built by Fresco Logic, while the PCI Express controller chip is built on an Intel i5-based motherboard from Asus.
The computer’s main processor can handle compression due to raw HD video streaming, instead of the camera components. The system is supossed to offer more flexibility over the different types of compression, while allowing certain processes, such as facial recognition, to work on uncompressed video for higher performance
