The near future might find Microsoft and Apple companies competing against each other once again, this time with new touchscreen tablet devices.
The “Microsoft Watcher” Mary Jo Foley shared some of her updates on touchscreen tablet devices with her readers. Windows Maker seems to be hard at work on a tablet device, part of something known as “Alchemy Ventures”, the competitor for Apple’s own long awaited tablet of this kind. The Microsoft team is high on its way with Chief Experince Officer J. Allard and one executive from the Surface team believed to be among its ranks.
Uncertainty has been hovering over the rival company’s plans as well. The Cupertino company has been secretive as to the features of the touch-screen tablet but it is rumored to be a 10-inch 3G-enabled multi-touch device. AppleInsider received information that the new hardware will be launched in early 2010.
Foley also wrote that Microsoft apparently intends to retire from the hardware industry, with only a few changes needed for Zune before it becomes a functionality of mobile phones, and also to have more partnerships when working on its mobile devices in the future.
Another piece of information shared by Foley involves Pink, the codename for Microsoft ‘s iPhone competitor, rumored to feature “premium mobile services”, just like Zune, and to be built on the Windows Mobile 7 operating system. The new touch-screen tablet is planned to be exhibited at the Consumer Electronics show in January.
