Associated Press states that the French government has gone a little bit further in adopting a much debated legislation regarding Internet piracy. An act which way prior approved in July by the French Senate was studied by the National Assembly. However, there is one more thing to do before this piracy bill is transformed in a law. It needs a third approval from a committee which links the houses of parliament.
The act is oriented to those persons who are accused of Internet piracy such as music, movies and any other type of virtual media. The bill states that if a known Internet pirate continues his illicit activity even after he or she has been warn through e-mails and letters, that person will have their Internet subscription cut off for one year`s period. Moreover, the perpetrator will be fined with a sum of maximum €300,000 or will face a prison sentence.
French Internet piracy bill is supported by movie and music companies that wish to keep their success on the market and because of the piracy encounter huge losses. However, there are people who are against the adoption of this bill due to the fact they consider the Internet a public service and by banning the Internet pirates the law infringes their civil liberty to have access to a necessary service.
Prior to amendments, this bill was considered an unconstitutional act due to the lack of supervision. However, Great Britain plans to take some likewise measures regarding Internet piracy.
