Daimler confirmed the rumors regarding the new Mercedes-Benz S 500 Hybrid. It appears that the concept moved to prototype and now a line of products is expected. Frankfurt will host the appearance of the luxury car hybrid.

The car is a 3.5-liter plug-in hybrid electric vehicle which consumes 3.2 liters per 100 kilometers according to European Standards. Regarding Unites States computations, the internal consumption of the Mercedes-Benz S 500 Hybrid is a little bit lower, but no actual figure is known considering the mechanism which makes the car function. The toxic emissions of the luxury car will be around 74 grams of carbon dioxide per kilometer, which is a great. The propelling complex is composed by a V6 engine functioning on gasoline and a 44kW/60 hp electric motor. This ensures the Mercedes-Benz hybrid a 0-62 mph time of 5.5 seconds. Even though the 18-mile range is supposed to exist, the company did not specifically say anything about it, just that there is an over 10kWh lithium-ion battery pack located in the trunk of the car.

When asked about the availability to the public of their new plug-in hybrid electric vehicle, Thomas Weber who is a member of Daimler`s AG Board stated that the company has the technological knowledge needed to create the hybrid car. Moreover, he said that the organization hopes that the future generation of S-Class cars will be endowed with this high-tech device.
