Facebook’s chief Mark Zuckerberg is said to have been invited by Apple’s co-founder Steve Jobs to his home about two weeks ago for a discussion on the impasse of Ping. The two officials have been reportedly seen walking in Palo Alto and talking together. No details of the conversation have been intercepted but it is believed the discussion turned around restoring the integration of Facebook with Ping.

At the same time Zuckerberg and Jobs were seen discussing, Facebook’s CTO Bret Taylor said he was optimistic with respect to a resolution to this dispute. The exact solution, however, if it exists, is not yet known, because neither company agreed to make any comment.

Apple had made pressure for about eighteen months long to have a deal and had the component in at the time of the launch, but quickly afterwards it was blocked. The exact objections Facebook may have had were not known, but it demands a formal agreement for using Facebook Connect that is supposed to seriously impact the quality of its service. In only two days, Ping hit about one million users and has expanded since then.

The two have little in common in terms of competition. Facebook lacks a full musical service, while Ping is intended to music activity on iTunes only. Apart the ability of iTunes to share through Facebook, neither has a significant integration with Facebook. Meanwhile, mobile platforms such as Windows Phone 7 and webOS have built-in Facebook.
