Sonos has released its Controller for iPad free, on the App Store. The application provides a significantly expanded view for guiding a Sonos device like the ZonePlayer S5 and is able to show the current music, destination zones, queue and the source list at once. The application can work both in portrait and landscape mode.
Sonos Controller for iPad has been tested and works more effectively than the iPhone application in many areas. A lot of searching in the menu on the smaller display is not necessary in the iPad application. There are a lot of advanced features, such as alarms and sleep timer, which are controllable in pop-overs, this way making possible to rapidly set the Sonos to play a radio station or music. The size is also appropriate for picking items from a large list and can show more of a queue than it is possible on an iPod or iPhone.
There are also some complaints, not many, but important. For example, it is not immediately obvious how zones can be changed if there is more than one. The music source list is still kept very deep and therefore can often require walking through many layers unless a favorite station, track or playlist has been queued up.
Together with the iPad application, Sonos has updated its Mac and Windows software to the 3.3 version. This update mainly adds Spotify support for the European countries that use the streaming music service. The update can work best with a paid Premium access.
