Joystiq has recently reported that according to a reliable source, Microsoft will release a redesigned game controller just in time for the holidays. The most important change will affect the D-pad; this will be raised by about a quarter of an inch thanks to the maker twisting it 90 degrees. The change may be very beneficial to arcade-style fighting games. Therefore, the controller could be an additional accessory rather than replacing Microsoft’s original gamepad. Even if no previous rumors exist, Microsoft seems to be willing to play with the controller design – the company has produced a much smaller gamepad for the original Xbox in mid-cycle.
Despite the rumors, the exact release date and pricing for the revised controller are yet to be known.
