Google searching for a music store leader

Google is still in search of an executive to lead the Google Music service, as rumors go. The company has talked to several digital media executives, as mentioned by AllThingsD, but it does not seem to have found the right person to lead its music store. Google has not yet commented these aspects.

The search of such an executive may reveal some problems the company has had due to its ambitions for this service. It has envisaged a streaming service which would provide access to a music collection on the web but also at least on Android phones. However, it seems to be struggling at present with label representatives who have refused to conclude any agreement proposed by Google. To try to put an end to this impasse, the company has reportedly brought a veteran negotiator.

The store was rumoured to open in November or December as a result of an accelerated process, but without a leader or in the absence of an agreement, google could miss the launch of the service in time. Google is also in the middle of a race with Apple, as cloud-based media services are expected to come shortly after the completion of Apple’s data center in North Carolina.
